Location: Standing Buffalo Old Daycare
The Appointment of the Senate Council will take place shortly after the nomination process.
Election Date:
August 2, 2025
Time: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (Sharp)
Location: Standing Buffalo School Gymnasium

2. OFFICIAL NOTICE TO ALL NOMINATED CANDIDATES
Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation – 2025 Election
All nominated candidates for the upcoming Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation election on August 2, 2025, are required to submit a CPIC (Criminal Record Check) on Nomination Day: July 16, 2025.
In the event of a delay in receiving your CPIC, you will have until July 24, 2025, to submit it with proof of submission — it must be dated and stamped as received.
Failure to submit a CPIC will result in removal from the Candidates’ List.

3. REMINDER: SENATE COUNCIL APPOINTMENT
July 16, 2025 – Following Nominations
Location: Standing Buffalo Old Daycare
All Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation members aged 60 and over are invited to assemble for the Appointment of the Senate Council on Nomination Day, July 16, 2025.
The Senate Council will consist of:
• 7 Council Members
• 2 Alternate Members
This appointment will take place shortly after the nomination meeting, with Senate nominations beginning after 2:00 p.m.
This is an important process for community governance and participation — we encourage all eligible members to attend and take part.
First notice was issued on June 30, 2025.

4. STANDING BUFFALO DAKOTA NATION – 2025 ELECTION NOTICE - Eligibility Criteria for Candidates
As we prepare for the upcoming 2025 Election, all community members are encouraged to review the eligibility criteria for candidates wishing to run for Chief or Councillor under the Standing Buffalo Election Act.
To be eligible for Chief or Councillor, candidates must be at least 18 years of age on the day of the Election.
Candidates must have been ordinarily and continuously resident on the Standing Buffalo Reserve for the past 12 consecutive months prior to the Election date and must currently reside on the Reserve.
Candidates may only run for one position—either Chief or Councillor, not both.
All candidates must abide by the Standards of Conduct as outlined in the Election Act.
Individuals who have committed fraud or indictable offences under the Criminal Code of Canada or drug trafficking-related offences within the past 5 years are not eligible.
All elected Chiefs and Councillors must maintain a bona fide residence on the Standing Buffalo Reserve throughout their term.

5. STANDING BUFFALO DAKOTA NATION – 2025 ELECTION UPDATE
Senate Council Nomination Details
In accordance with the Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation Election Act, we invite all community members to note the eligibility criteria and important details for the upcoming Senate Council nominations.
Who Can Be Nominated?
-Must be a member of Standing Buffalo Dakota Nation
-Must be 60 years of age or older
-Must be present at the nomination assembly and give consent in person
-Cannot be a Chief, Councillor, band employee, or Electoral/Deputy Electoral Officer
How Many Members?
-The Senate Council will be made up of seven (7) members and two (2) alternates
When & Where?
Date: Tuesday, July 16, 2025
Time: Nominations open after 2:00 p.m. and close at 4:00 p.m.
Location: Old Daycare
The Senate Council plays a vital role in our Nation's governance, and we thank our respected Elders for their continued leadership and service.
